The Division 2 New Season – Everything You Need to Know!

“Red Shades” is a fresh Division 2 season released on February 25. On this page, we’ll give you a rundown of the most important additions to the patch so that you can jump into season armed. Without further ado, let’s explore the Division 2 novelties!
Overview & Background
Let’s glance at the most important additions to the gameplay The Division 2 new season entails:
- Progression system with 7 missions, each containing 8 objectives. This system is available from level 1 and is designed to guide both new and experienced players in the system mechanics. Progression through all the missions grants you a bunch of items and exp while completing the final trail gives you a unique skin.
- Modifiers. The season introduces all-known Global Modifiers, Active Modifiers, Passive Modifiers, and Hostile Modifiers.
- Priority objectives. Starting from level 30, players can choose and reroll priority objectives, which allows them to gain extra items, exp, and passives.
- Manhunt scouts. You receive weekly activities with exp, items, and collectibles rewards. If you complete a sufficient number of manhunt scouts during the season, the game rewards you with a Master Climax mission with unique rewards.
- Friend referral. You can invite friends into the game, which provides you and your invitees with unique items.
In addition to those updates, the game adds new legendary items and changes boss loot pools.
Release Date & Schedule
New: The Division 2 season starts early this time, on February 25. In our experience, seasons last around three months. However, because it’s an early season, it can last several weeks longer than others, ending right before the summer.
Storyline & Setting
As in many other seasons, “Red Shades,” there’s no new storyline. However, the developers are about to release a new “Story DLC,” which unlocks a new huge location, Brooklyn. Even though a release has recently been postponed, it’s likely to come out close to the summer, which is near the end of the season.
According to developers’ commentaries, the upcoming DLC will be the greatest addition to the game in the last 5 years. That’s one of the reasons for postponing, too. Developers strive to make their upcoming add-ons as refined as possible.
New Features & Gameplay Changes
The primary season feature that touches on your gameplay is new modifiers. If you don’t know what these are, modifiers are developer-picked buffs or nerfs to specific mechanics that determine the META.
This season’s global modifier will be “range.” The game creates it by implementing a “Point Blank” mechanic that gives you a damage boost upon shooting enemies from further distances.
Speaking about active modifiers, they give your character a burst of power (you can adjust it) upon using an ultimate. It’s a cool feature that exalts builds based on low-KD ultimates.
Passive modifiers of this season work in combos with global modifiers. You can choose up to 3 passive mods that will grant you passive stats like shooting speed, damage, reload speed, etc., based on your range zones.
Finally, we have hostile modifiers that make enemies adapt to your offense. To counter that, you must implement weapons with high range, which will help you avoid extra enemies’ defenses.
Weapons, Gear & Loot
As usual, The Division 2’s new season introduces new exotic weapons. Let’s look at them and their features:
- Strega. It’s an exotic assault rifle with a 20-round mag and crit chance/damage stats. The unique perk of Strega debuffs enemies without 20m of the killed foes to carry marks (you can put several marks on a single foe). Shooting a marked enemy has a 15% damage amplification.
- Centurion’s Scabbard. This is a holster that gives you perks upon swapping weapons in order. In PvE, you first receive 20% of fire rate + 20% weapon damage, and then, you get 50% mag size + 50% reload speed. For PvP, you receive 10% of the fire rate + 10% weapon size, and then 25% mag size + 50% reload speed. Amplifications last 10 – 12 seconds, and sidearms don’t trigger them.
- Virtuoso. Next, we have a gear set that grants you 15% weapon handling, 15% mag size, 15% dmg, and a new talent after equipping a 4-piece set. The talent is called Talent Symphony, and it gives you weapon damage up to 40% upon killing an enemy who is 25m+ away from you and within 25m of you (you can activate both bonuses). Amplifications stack up to 4 times.
- Legatus S.p.A. It’s a brand set that buffs you with 30% swap speed, 70% optimal range, and 15% weapon damage after equipping 3 pieces. Having a Legatus S.p.A. backpack gives you a Perfect Versatile talent, amplifying your weapon damage for 10s based on the weapon type.
- The Drill/Cricket (named Carabine 7/GR9). Weapon receives a unique talent that gives you up to 2 stacks upon killing enemies that are 20m+ away from you. When you move into the 20m or less range and kill an enemy, stacks provide you with 35% dmg amplification for 5s.
- Provocator. It’s an exotic chest that gives you up to 25% extra damage upon killing enemies within 20m and 15m range in PvE and PvP, respectively.
In addition to the introduction of new items, The Division 2 has reworked several of the old items:
- Sledgehammer. Now the weapon’s marked enemies take 15% more damage to armor and have – 20% movement speed debuff. Previously, targets suffered 30% more damage to armor.
- Mosquito Song. Now, instead of simply forcing an enemy to target a random player at 10 stacks, the pistol also causes an enemy to take 25% extra damage to armor.
Developers also make CR, UIC15, The Ravenous, M1A, Lightweight M4, LVOA-C, MDR, Resolute Mk47, Mk17, SIG 716, USC, G28, Mk20, and SVD fully automatic.
Boss Loot Pools Changes
You can obtain new weapons from bosses in TU22. The game adds new items to loot tables while not touching the existing items. Consider that only players above level 40 are eligible to obtain new stuff.
Seasonal Activities & Progression
Developers have added a bunch of new activities to the game with a new season release. Let’s glance at new missions and gameplay mechanics in detail.
Seasonal Journey
As you start the season, you receive a 7-mission string. Each mission you get contains 8 objectives designed to guide the players through the main seasonal mechanics, like amplifiers.
You can complete the seasonal journey from level 1. As you finish the entire mission string, you receive exp, season pass exp, progression-boosting items, resources, active modifiers, and a cosmetic item.
Priority of Objectives
Upon reaching level 30, you can select between objectives that improve your farming capabilities. You can choose between 3 objectives: duration, reward category, and mission type. When you’ve made a choice, the game reveals the objective details.
If the details don’t suit you, you can reroll them. You can have only 3 rerolls per one objective choice. The number of objectives available is unlimited, which drastically improves the rate at which you can get exp, season pass exp, items, resources, and passive modifiers.
Manhunt Scouts
Manhunt Scouts is a system that provides you with weekly quests that you complete throughout the entire season. Each Scout’s task consists of 3 activities. You must complete them in order by solving simple riddles, which grant you Scout rewards, including collectibles.
If you’ve completed all Scout missions by the end of the season, you receive a Manhunt Climax mission, completing which gives you access to the Master Climax mission. When all these trails are down, you receive Provocator (exotic chest we’ve talked about previously).
Tips & Strategies for Players
“Red Shades” season combat is heavily dependent on switching between different ranges. It gives you extra damage, thanks to the seasonal modifiers. Therefore, we recommend creating a build with a weapon with a high range (like sniper rifles) and a mid-low range gun.
Your task will be to switch between those upon activating modifier damage boosts. Thus, your combat can look the next way: you approach enemies from afar, killing several foes with a sniper rifle, and as you do, you move in the 20m range and kill enemies to activate the second boost. Keep doing this every 10 seconds to maintain both buffs permanently.
In case you don’t want to switch between weapons that often, you can create a build with an AR (like Strega). Such weapons are capable of operating at low, mid, and high ranges, which allows you to trigger all modifiers with a single weapon.
Final Thoughts
The Division 2 2025 new season brings in a load of new content to the game.
